Dear Chairman Wilson:
Re 20May09 scheduled 'Cornfield Park' public
My letter of 160ct08 queried the consequences of
"undersized septic tanks," given that a tank of any
size could be labeled "undersized" by selecting an
arbitrarily low pumpout frequency.
From the OSWPCA FAQ page:
"What is considered an undersized septic tank?"
Your FAQ doesn't answer the question! It doesn't tell
us what an "undersized septic tank" is, rather it tells
us what the current public health code requires in tank
sizes. There is a difference.
There's nothing wrong with upgrading health codes in
accord with perceived need. But there is something
wrong with applying new health code standards
retroactively to systems that met the current code when
built in the absence of overwhelming public or private
danger. We don't require functioning antique cars to
install collapsing steering columns and air bags,
though that might make more sense.
Rather than hold meetings, why not just tell us what we
are required to do to meet the demands of our fascist
masters and let us get on with our lives?
What are the current consequences to homeowners whose
so-called "undersized" septic tanks were installed in
good faith under the then-extant public health code?
Very truly yours,
Joel R. Anderson
